Memorable for many reasons.

1) We got to meet some great customers and make new friends. This is always our most important reason for these trips. For those of you who helped with stops, a very special thank you. These trips would be impossible without you.

2) Special friends were visited. Carol N, Alice, Eleanor, Tiffany, Sue B, Hope B. went well beyond, by extending "hospitality and/or rescue" care and by encouraging us even during the tough days, between our break downs. You ladies are incredible, hugs to your families, too, for putting up with us and letting us draw on their partners time and spirit.

3) Those Docs, RN's, Dietitians and other professionals who took the time to visit with us at the conference. It is our hope you picked up some tips and ideas about Bio Tech and their wonderful products and well as from us.

4) Those businesses that provided help for our vehicles when we were stranded. I hope you all noticed your help has been noted in our blog and we encourage others to feel comfortable in seeking out your services.

5) Finally, I want to thank that incredible Vitalady for putting up with (or just shrugging off) my nastiness during those rough days, of being cut off in LA traffic, blow outs, dealing with damage to our rig. You, most of all are the reason for these trips. I love traveling with you, really, and spending our anniversary (22nd) in Seaside.

Speaking of Seaside, our final stop for VitaTour 2010. This is the best place for us to unwind before throwing our selves back into business. And all of the characters here are interesting. Hector here is not really camera shy, as he is calling his ladies for a trip into the coastal mist.

While here, we visited every Crocs store between Canon Beach and Astoria. We also hit every Thrift Store and many of the cute little shops and restaurants, too.

We only have a weekend to get things stored for the final leg to the VitaCompound and get ready for Ben (Michelle's youngest) and Monica's wedding. Oh, we also get to see our sweet little grand daughter, Becky, that we haven't seen for ever. So next week we get to add Monica and her son (Also named Ben)to our family. We will bring our "house" to Bremerton, so as not to miss a moment of the final prep.

So another trip under our belt and thinking about going to Orlando next year. We will probably not go through California and Nevada next trip. So right now everything is open. We hope to spend considerable time in New England as well. So until next year, thanks for your support. Isn't life good?

(M: my take. We love these trips! Yes, it's a lot of work, but then when we see faces, it is so well worth it! And Seaside is such a good place to rest our souls after the hustle bustle. I also want to acknowledge those hard working people at Vitalady.com, who were taking care of business while we were out on the road. )

Back in Hanford

Back with Alice and Mike. Vicki is a quiet mousey kinda lady and never ever shares her opinion. (RIGHT) Not mousey nor quiet but quite the lady. Just wait until she gets back on the Grad Group. Better strap your self into you desk chair.

This picture of Jo definitely does not show her warm character. And of course I had to capture Alice in an embarrassing moment. OH WAIT, this isn't Alice, honest. It's someone else, because Alice would not want me to post such a picture. And of course I would honor her request, I'm that kind of guy. So remember this really isn't Alice, honest.

Why she puts up with us (actually with me) is beyond comprehension. At least she and Michelle can go to the outlet stores and the Crocs store, with out doing too much damage to the credit cards.

And then there is Alice's husband Mike. He has become my west coast big brother. We have had fun discussing our painful pasts, military similarities, our agreement on politics, trucks and foods. We do have a lot in common, more than my own brothers (meaning no disrespect to either of my brothers or Mike). He and Alice have been there when we were there with Michelle's broken arm and now with our broken vehicles and spirits. I would put Mike's picture here so you could see what a good guy looks like, but I generally use flash on my cameras and the bounce back from his scalp would be blinding. So instead I added a picture of the one who never gets the brunt of my humor. Kisses babe. Let's get a room. Sorry Mike, she is better lookin'.

Well tomorrow we are back in Vacaville to share the 4th with Tiffany and Loye. Isn't life with friends, fun? Across the desert (Mojave) with temps over 110 deg. Dang I think the high was 112. VERY HOT. I have to say, although it has its own beauty, I have no idea why any one would want to settle out here.

We see a number of stand alone homes and small communities. It must be hard to make a living out here. Even harder to just live. But it takes all kinds to make up this crazy world. After all how many would relish in the wet drizzly climate called western Washington?

Boron is the home of the Twenty Mule Team Borax fame. We have been here before on a pass through. This time we take advantage of a nice little RV Park that easily met our needs (50 amps with wide and deep sites.)

The town is small and on a Sunday, quiet. We met up with Sharon S for dinner and conversation. The menu at the K&L Corral was wonderful, as was the meal it self. If for some reason you find your self in the area, it is definitely the place for a good meal and great service.

Lisa came with Sharon and they met Patti there. After sharing stories, successes and difficulties we have made some more friends. Patti came back to the RV site and we discussed more on iron and other specific issues.

Sharon, thanks for arranging this stop. It was wonderful seeing you again and as always you make us smile and giggle.

From here we head out early to Visalia, CA which is near Hanford. Normally we would stay at the county fair grounds in Hanford but Alice put the Kings County Fair right smack in the middle of our stop. She can be soooo mean (I will get even). So Visalia was the next best choice. This is a small KOA (Visalia/Fresno KOA) again with nice sized sites and amenities.

Michelle and Alice went out running errands and preparing for a gathering at Alice's Tuesday. I did some work but really rested more. The heat here is over 105 and is zapping my strength. According to Michelle, even Mike and Alice were complaining about the heat as well. If the locals complain I guess we outsiders can, too.

Well it is after noon on Tuesday and we need to get going to the meet and greet in Hanford. So until we return we'll cut this short. See ya soon. Isn't life grand?

27th ASMBS Conference

As mentioned in the last post, we did make it to Las Vegas, the host city for the 27th Annual ASMBS Conference. This is a conference for professionals that are members of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons to share and learn the various areas of interest in the bariatric and metabolic communities.

In other words, a chance for Michelle to wrangle Surgeons, RN's, RD's and anyone who will listen, how nutritional supplementation plays a part in the success of surgical weight loss patients. Over the past eleven years, we have shared our story and reason for our success, with these professionals. And over the years (one by one) some have seen the importance of our experience for their patients.

It has been very satisfying to have those of influence in the field open their eyes to a pro-active stance toward dealing with the expected nutritional deficiencies before they become a serious difficulty. With the help of our customers and friends, turning in good labs, Michelle's wrangling and the openness of these professionals, the word IS getting out.

We remember when supplements (especially protein shakes) were dirty words. As the first company to "show and tell" our nutritional products at these conferences, over 10 years ago, we can say that more and more clinics and practices are adding nutritional plans to their program.

This year, we even had a few doc's, who in the past have been able to avoid Michelle's enthusiasm, finally slow down enough and be open enough to listen. (Thank you to Dr's John Coon and Mal Fobi.) Dr. Coon did agree to add Vitamin D 25 Hyroxy add to his lab slips. (yippie)

We ran into Dr's. Todd (Anchorage), Greenbaum (New Jersey), Rabkin (San Francisco), Sweet (Pennsylvania), Rumbaut (Mexico), Marchesini (Brazil) and so many more surgeons and their support staff. This was a productive conference for us and are looking forward to 2011 in Florida.

We want to especially thank Bio Tech Pharmacal, our conference host and all the suppliers that have shared product to share with those we are meeting along our journey this year. Please remember them when you are considering which products to purchase.

The owner of Bio Tech, Dale Benedict, was there sharing his technical expertise and charm with many of the participants. This is Michelle and I, with Dale at the Bio Tech booth. We had fun working with him and promoting his product and company.

Tomorrow we take the day off, do laundry, play with Lucy and some one said something about a Crocs Outlet Store. After that we head back to California and head north. With any kind of luck, we will return home without the problems we had coming south. Talk with ya soon as we head home.

We made it to Grand Canyon and beyond

Even though our time at the Grand Canyon was shortened, it was certainly worth it. We made Williams, AZ (our camp ground) and all worked out fine. The site is 50 miles away from the National Park. And Williams is on old US Route 66 or The Mother Road. For your car nuts this is a great part of Americana Motor History.

Anyway I got up early and left (alone) for the Canyon. On the way, there is a mountain I thought was interesting and wanted to share here. I pulled of the main road and up a service road to get a clear shot.

And then the final 20 miles to the info center to purchase my "Senior" life time pass and into the National Park. This park is incredible, very well laid out and well marked.

I pulled into the first lot and found a spot at the trail head, so no extra walking. And there it is. A piece of God's miracle. The Grand Canyon. This is my first view and I am a blown away here as I was at Crater Lake in central Oregon. There is nothing I can do to capture the colors. Even in the early afternoon, the colors are muted some, but still breath taking. These are only a few of the many pictures I took.

Well I decided if I stayed there all day and shot a million more pictures, my leg would be used up and I really wanted to share this with Michelle. So around 2:30 I headed back to pick her and Lucy up so we could see the canyon as the sun set. The colors are so much more intense and the contrast was WOW, just incredible.

So here is Michelle and her first view and me and Lucy enjoying the evening, followed by some more pictures.

Now I know it takes all kinds of people to make up this world. One of the things that really got me is how the Park Service has avoided putting up barriers to prevent accidents. Obviously, they are concerned "because that first step is a doosey". There are a lot of warning signs posted, but there are a bunch of pseudo-mountain goats wearing clothes walking on two feet that have to test fate. That is not gonna be Michelle or me, no way!

I could have stayed here for several more days, but we do have a conference to attend. After all this is a business trip. Next stop : Las Vegas. So we head out the next day to Nevada. To get there we had to go over the Hoover Dam, which I have never seen either. Before crossing we get stopped (along with every one else) for security. They checked truck and trailer for anything that could damage the dam. It is a bit of a hassle, but in today's world, I understand the need.

Finally cleared, we join traffic and ever so slowly drop down to the dam bridge way and across.

Built in the the 20's and 30's this is also a marvel. The current construction looks like the are adding a bridge way above the structure. There are plenty of turnoffs here if you want to really look, but with a 39' trailer, we just moseyed on. Here are a few final pictures to this segment of our trip. From feeding the dam to the controls and finally crossing from AZ to NV.

Between man made and natural barriers, it is such a contrast.

And finally we cross from Arizona to Nevada. From here just a short jump to Las Vegas. We met up with Sue B here after we set up camp.

The next day Michelle gets a call from Dr Carolyn in South Dakota. She is one of our old revisions. Her husband kidnapped her for a few days and came to Vegas on a lark. Then sat next to a surgeon who was coming to the conference and they put 1 and 1 together and low and behold they are even staying in the same hotel. We shared a wonderful meal and caught up on old times. Sorry camera wasn't ready so no pictures.

OK tomorrow in the first day in the exhibit booth, so we are off to bed shortly. It will be an early up so we'll catch up with you all later.

Williams, AZ and "The Canyon"

One step closer to the Grand Canyon. I have been prevented from seeing "The Canyon" a number of times due to problems on previous trips. I was about to resolve this would be another, but here we are in Williams, AZ, fifty miles from the grandeur of the big ditch.

We arrived here without incident. The new clutch behaved well, the trailer pulled true, no blow outs and thus far I have avoided hitting anything with my big trailer butt. Hey, I even filled up with DIESEL fuel in Mesa. Life is good.

As we were leaving Mesa, we were looking for a place to UPS a package home. Twice we were told "Sorry sir," They either handle only next day or 2nd day air or couldn't use our UPS account. "But you can go to the Hub". It is waaaaaay out of the way and pulling the trailer there didn't sound like something we wanted to do. So the package is accompanying Lucy in the back seat of the truck.

Moving on toward Prescott and Flagstaff, climbing over 5000' above sea level, the temp finally drops all the way to 97 deg. Come on, wasn't it freezing in Flagstaff last month? (YES it was.) Arizona is a strange state, 107+ deg in Mesa in the desert to 97 deg in the high desert. But once we were higher, it did remind us of Eastern Washington. Green, trees taller than 20', and water.

We pulled into one of the still open rest areas and finally found out why Arizona doesn't change their clocks in the spring and fall, like the rest of the country. They use sun dials as their official time piece and it is too hard to move the dial twice a year.

A final look at the sun dial and it is time to move on. Lucy and Michelle head for the truck. "Hey guys aren't you forgetting something, like the driver?"

OK, I'll stop picking on the state whose residents and businesses have been so helpful to us. and head off to bed. I want to get up early and to go "shoot the canyon". And to be awe struck by its beauty. That is tomorrow, finally.

I enjoy the natural beauty of this country more than Michelle, so I am heading out alone. This way I can shoot a million pictures, taking my time and relax. Leaving Michelle here in Williams to enjoy the splendor of "Clearance" and Sale" rack or just giving her a break from my distemperment.

So until I get back from the wonder of the Grand Canyon, I bid you good night. It isn't because we love the Phoenix area, the people and businesses here, because we have found some wonderful folks and businesses. It's more problems.

Michelle was coming back from lunch with Nita and Carol, remember. And a funny story she didn't want to relate. I have to say it was something really silly. Or so I (we) thought. She couldn't get the truck into lower gears. She restarted the truck and the problem was resolved.
(M: when in doubt: reboot)

Yesterday, the day BEFORE we were to leave for the Grand Canyon, Michelle had trouble with it again. I figured it might be the linkage because I could get it into 2nd (kinda), 3rd and 4th. If it's linkage, no big deal.

We found a Dodge dealer that would look at it, and possibly get us back on the road. I'm back at the rv, Michelle is in a rental, she hooks up with Hope to get a hair cut. When she returned, her hair looked and felt SOOOOOO nice. Another plug, this time for Marie's, the Hair Perfectionist, Indian School Rd and E 24th, in north Phoenix. She Michelle, was very pleased that she was so pampered for a drop in.

I'm getting ahead of myself here. While she is gone, I get a call from the Dodge dealer, obviously bad news. Thus the heading for this segment.

"Can you name this broken part?" Hint - it weighs about 150# is big, metallic, goes between the engine and manual transmission, consists of four assemblies and should go roundy roundy when pressing in the clutch allowing an operator to change gears.

In the old days when Michelle and I worked on Volkswagens, it was a nuisance to change but could be done in a couple of hours for less than a hundred bucks. The answer is, a Fly Wheel, Pressure Plate, Clutch Disc and Throw Out Bearing. And for a Cummins Diesel, figure X 10, a lot of which is labor. Hey, the parts weight 10 times more too.

OK, so our luck continues. All the problems have been when we could work around it, time wise. Yes ,a lot of money and inconvenience BUT we have made a lot of new friends, even at Superstition Dodge in Mesa. Yep another plug from a VERY satisfied customer. The problem wasn't their fault but they handled it as if we were their only customer and were glad to help. (And I don't think it was just for the money.)

M: the business tie-ins here? At this rv park, I try to recycle everything I can, so I combined as many protein jugs as I could yesterday and insisted they recycle the 4 I released. When I went up to pay for this extra day, young guy who works here asks if I left the protein jugs, where did I get them, how did they taste....... And, BTW, his mom had WLS and it didn't work out so well.

And at the Dodge dealer? Really? A "brother" needs WLS.

It's kinda like your new car, when you see one everywhere you go, but never noticed before? Yeah, like that.

Well, let's see. Tomorrow up to Williams, AZ and the Grand Canyon. This is Don, the Vitaguy (and eternal optimist) signing off for now. See ya there, (we hope).

M: this is our FOURTH try to get Don to GC. Arm took us out in 07. Timing took us out in both 08 and 09. This year, we built in extra days just for GC. But we spent them........ where? Hanging out in Mesa with the peeps that I think are way better than GC, personally, but at the Dodge dealer dropping money we don't have. So, at least he can wave as we go by. We will aim again next year. LOL

Back to Phoenix

With the disastrous days past, I am up early again to go get the trailer out of Banning, and head back to Phoenix.

I didn't need to get more gas or fuel, avoiding those problems, and meet up with Ray at Ray's RV. Work is done and I feel they did a good job. They noticed a bend in the axle mounting and was easily fixed. We (Alice's hubby Mike and I) noticed it in Hanford and attributed it to the first bad tire. That avoided more problems down the road.

Ray said he picked up the rest of my deductible because we agreed on repair rather than replacement of cosmetic parts. I told him the insurance company did that and it wasn't necessary. He insisted so who am I to turn down $150.00 off the bill. Actually I think he was just feeling sorry for us. They are out on W Ramsey Street in Banning. If you need RV work, yeah, I would be happy to recommend them. They got the work done fast and safely got me back on the road.

Back the 300 miles to Mesa to drop off the trailer and go pick up Michelle in Phoenix. Fortunately this trip was uneventful. (I even made it past Desert Center) The road was rough between Phoenix and Mesa so shook the trailer pretty good. When I finally got into the RV Park, I found the spaces tough to navigate, but got in safely and set up. I noticed that a chair shifted, probably on the way from Phoenix. When I extended the slide it pulled some of the interior trim loose. No big deal. Easy fix.

I go up to Carol and Alann's to get Michelle and take them out to dinner. I can't believe how much we miss our own fur family.

It is now Monday the 14th. Michelle met Carol and Nita for lunch. On her way back she is stopping to pick up a few things. I get a call "There is a problem with the truck. I can put it into gear but it doesn't want to move."

Of course, we are thinking the worse, but she shut it off and back on. (M: When in doubt, reboot. That's what I do with everything else!) Seems to be OK now. I'll check it over when she gets home and will report further. In fact as Michelle edits these before posting I'll let he tell you the story. You'll love this one, honest. (M: I am NOT telling the story of stupid. Nope.)

The trip from....

"Mr Happy-Go-Lucky is out sick today. His replacement is Mr Doom and Gloom."

Well I left Phoenix to go pick up the trailer that we left behind in Banning, CA for repair. I think I told you all, the insurance company cut us a break as we allowed repair rather than replacement of some cosmetic parts. Only $150 deductible.

Three hundred miles back across the desert and past Desert Center. Fortunately, a rest stop wasn't necessary, so I saved a few dollars there too. Getting back to the Day's Inn in Banning and so I checked in around 6:30. Too late to pick up or even look at the trailer, so I fire up the computer to add to this blog.

Dang the free Wi-Fi we enjoyed previously, was down. No Wi-Fi, free or otherwise. Hey, at least the TV was free and working. Actually, once I paid my bill in the morning and mentioned the Wi-Fi, they adjusted my bill to compensate. They threw in a good licking and kisses from the resident pooch. In fact, I was pleased with our stay at this low expense family motel. OK plug #1, Days Inn on West Ramsey in Banning, CA was very well worth the money.

Next morning, showered and shaved feeling pretty good I head off to Ray's RV to pick up the rig. They weren't able to pull it out at the moment. I take advantage and head to Mickey D' for breakfast. Coffee and free Wi-Fi. E-mail gets answered. Life is good. Back to Ray's then head back to Phoenix to catch up with Michelle.

Michelle and Carol went up to Mesa for brunch with Joyce and some ladies. Then Michelle and Hope (a friend we have known for a while) went up to Prescott Valley to attend a support group. Yeah, that is Michelle in the curly hair.

Back in Banning, I figure I better fuel up before I get the trailer. It would be easier. Pulled into the Chevron and filled up on unleaded. YEP UNLEADED GAS. I did the same thing three years ago, too. Unleaded fuel in a diesel engine can ruin the engine. Fortunately I didn't start it. All I did was contaminate the fuel and fuel tank.

Hoofing it up to the Goodyear Dealer that replaced the trailer tires last week. They could pull the tank, clean it and do it today. Plug #2, check out Certified Tire & Service at 1820 W Ramsey if you find yourself in need in Banning. I also found out Ron, the manager is also a bypass patient of one year. Small world, huh?

A couple of blocks further is Mickey's and the free Wi-Fi. On my way to answer more email. Life is good, until the phone rings. "Hey this is Ron from Certified. We need to talk about your truck." THIS DOESN'T SOUND GOOD !

They found a bent control rod on the truck from right side. This is part of the steering and with it bent throws the front end out of whack. I didn't like the idea of blowing out a front tire on the freeway, pulling 9 tons of trailer. They can get the part and get me on the road today. This thing is supposed to be straight and strong.

So at the moment I ask, "Has this all happened to prevent further disaster?" OK, this is how I am going to see it. Tomorrow I get the trailer, catch up with Michelle, regroup in Mesa for a few days, then up to the Grand Canyon, next to the ASMBS Conference and Grad Weekend in Las Vegas. After that back through CA and up to Seaside, OR for a few days of vacation and then finally home and off again to Michelle's son's (Ben) wedding. Yeah, we got that news on this same trip. In theory ,we arrive home, unload on the 19th, snuggle our kitties, reload and head to Bremerton on the 22nd to the 25th for the rehearsal, the wedding and what ever else they need help with. Ben's daughter, Becky (6) will be there from Spain for the summer, so we will spend time with her, too.

We made it to Phoenix

And it has been a bumpy ride. One of Toni's wonderful features was her height. Well Guess what, Is she really the taller? Michelle at 5' 1-1/4" seems to put her in her place (not). This was a delightful meal and special time. Thank you ladies for coming so far to be with us.

Up early next morning to get an early and cooler start across the desert. Looking for a "comfort" stop and to let Lucy relieve her self we turn off into Desert Center, CA. Town consists of a fuel depot and UPS Station, the Post Office and Market (closed) and across the street the Desert Center Cafe. the cafe has public rest rooms "FOR CUSTOMERS ONLY". We can't blame them for the policy. After all some one has to pay to get water all the way out there, to the Center of Nowhere.

After buying a Diet Coke and a few snacks, we head back across the desert. There is no chance this will become the future home of Vitalady, Inc.

Our luck turns sour just as we get close to Banning, CA. Going 60 MPH into an interchange construction area, center lane and BOOM, THUMPA, THUMPA. This does not feel right and get off to the right and through construction cones to the road side. I got to the shoulder with out incident. Getting out to access damage and to answer "WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT"? from my navigator.

"Gee golly sweetie, I think I have to go look and let you know, OK? (grrr...)"

OK, we have a blow out, removed the drain valve from the side of the rig and some body damage. AAA gets called and we wait as our frustration reaches critical mass. On the good side, no one hurt or involved. Two repair trucks show up. Decisions need to be made.

The tire remnants tore up some wiring and maybe some plumbing from the wheel well. Looks like the land service A/C wiring got severed and not sure about the 12 Volt system is involved. The wire to the electric breaks is cut, too. My spare is questionable from the earlier problem.

So the supervisor suggests we take his truck into Banning, get the tire replaced and contact an
RV repair shop. Best bet was to bring the trailer into the tire shop and see if the electrical it is something they can handle, as the repair shop is at least a couple of days, before they can even look at it.

Back out to the trailer, we unhook the power from the truck preventing shorting any wiring, but disconnecting the brakes and lights to the trailer. Being followed to the tire shop for assessment. Nope, not gonna be able to do the work. But there are more problems. All tires show possible separation and should be replaced soon. Four new tires later we head out to Ray's RV in Banning to beg and plead our case.

The down and dirty is no they can't do anything right away and might be at lease a week. And we have to be in Phoenix on Saturday for a full day of events. We decide to leave the trailer at Ray's and accept an invitation from Carol to stay with them for a bit and take a breath. What a God send she and Alan are. We really appreciate your hospitality and comfort.

We were able to hit Saturday's events that Joyce arranged.

Breakfast at Tiffany's (or Bill Johnson's) with Katie Jay. Now this is one energetic Bariatric Bunny. (Base Drum Energize Bunny, not the bow tie variety). About 12 of us enjoyed getting a glimpse into the world of Katie Jay.

Shortly after the breakfast we head out to the conference at the Banner Estralla Hospital. Vitalady captures the group with her unique style and wit. I love listening to her talk. Each question becomes a personal conversation, wanting to make sure every gets their questions answered and understood.

Following Michelle is Darcie Leigh discussing the importance of Gluten Free eating in a bariatric patient's diet. Darcie is followed by Katie Jay's discussion on her passion on the necessity of self

awareness in dealing with psychological issues.

I caught Michelle chatting with Joyce. Bet they are planning next years trip and how we can go through Phoenix to get to Florida. I will say, that each time we have stopped here while in Arizona, we have never been disappointed by the turn out and the enthusiasm.

As the evening draws to a close we all (or some) retire to Chuy's for dinner. As we enjoy the conversation and probably the best burger I have had for a long time. Katie wasn't able to be there but Darcie and Michelle continued to field questions. But alas, the night does end and I get to put ice on my noggin (I ran into one of the over head TV projection sets at the hospital).

OK, the Phoenix stop is in the bag. If you haven't made arrangements to join in the festivities while we are in the Phoenix area, please contact Joyce P for information on what she has planned.

I'm not even sure of all we are doing. Joyce has been busy trying to make as many chances for folks to gather, to discuss their successes and concerns. These gatherings aren't just about us, but those also contributing to the success and celebration of EVERY surgical weight loss patient. Seriously, check with Joyce and see how you can contribute and join in.

In the mean time, here in Hanford, we have been camping out near to our friends, Alice and Mike M. Over the years, they have been our saviors in Central California. Rumor has it Alice even had sections of US 99 patched to make it easier on us. Duh, we didn't use 99. You have 2 years to convince Arnold to put down some pavement on I-5 for us, OK?

While here, Alice hosted a BBQ for us. I have to tell you all that didn't make it, you missed out on some fantastic ribs, chicken and yummy "horses doovers" that were (as always) fit for a king. Big hugs to you both.

I did get a few pictures, here is Michelle and Alice getting things ready in the kitchen. Of course, Michelle is thinking where she would like to put my camera, but fortunately I am faster than her.

Carrie came down from Gilroy (?) to give momma Alice a hug. these two are like two peas in a pod (meant in the nicest of ways).

We sat around the table, with Mike telling us stories (with a lot of help from Alice). I don't think I have laughed that hard, since maybe my asking Michelle if she wanted to start a business.

Oh by the way, Carol in Chicago, she (Carrie) is getting really buff. You should see her guns now girl. BE FEARFUL.

Alice adopted a new sweet pooch (Doodle Bug) that fell in love with Lucy. Mike said between these two and Bubbles, he had to watch where he was walking. (Mike was our dog sitter while we were in Costa Mesa). I'm not sure what he had to be careful of, but I hope it because of their little size. Perhaps as a Totem Pole it was easier for Mike to keep track of at least two of them.

Well let's wrap this up for the night. Much to my chagrin and I am sure Michelle's displeasure, Carrie did manage to capture a photo of my best "side" and bet me I wouldn't post it. Yeah, right like I have any dignity.

We head off in a few days toward Phoenix and are really looking forward to meeting many of you. Get in touch with Joyce for the opportunity to make Phoenix the biggest and best event of VitaTour 2010. I promise to hide my best side. Some times I really hate the ability to "fix anything" that Vitalady seems to think I have. When living in a travel trailer there is no room for yet another list, so I get a verbal list, which I fear may become her preferred method of sharing the need. And if I don't get to it quickly the verbal list has to be repeated as my recall is at a minimum (an age thing). So, I know you don't need (or want) to hear about Michelle's list making method and get back to VitaTour 2010.

Last time I posted, we were in San Jose and Michelle was ahead of me with a score 13 Crocs/1 Air Museum. Since I posted this score, I lost my one point when I tried to move a tree with the trailer and Michelle added points by thinking it was her fault. (It really wasn't, but I just might need to use it)

On our way to Costa Mesa we crossed dry desert conditions with farm oasis' and the feared GRAPEVINE. All I can tell you about the "Vine" is respect it. And if installed, use the exhaust breaks.

As we were coming back from San Jose our Dashboard Chaperon Randolph was watching us and saying nasty things to the people with less than perfect driving etiquette. I REFUSE TO DISCUSS LA DRIVERS. Or being cut off by two cars at the same time, slamming on the breaks and praying the guy I cut off got home in time to change his pants. Any one have leather seat cleaner?

Once safely at the RV Park in Huntington Beach (right next to the ocean on the Pacific Coast Highway) we had to pack and move into the hotel. We looked like the Clampett's moving into Beverly Hills. Truck was loaded down with luggage, promos and product to sell at the OH Conference. Just a different sight the I am sure the bellmen were used to seeing. We check into our rooms and collapse. We spent a few minutes with Eleanor and Alice before retiring.

Eleanor and Alice offered to help at the conference and I really don't know what we would have done with out them.

Right here and publicly, we want to thank them both for their friendship, love and free labor. You two are the greatest.

I brought my camera to the event but never took a single picture while on the "floor" sharing about our Tender product line and writing up orders for protein bars. So nary a picture of us "hawking our snake oil". We had 16 foot of table and probably could have used and additional 8' with all we brought to show off.

There was a lot of vendors there from OH themselves, doctors offices, lipo corsets, and even a dog food company. That one I didn't understand, but what the heck, how many of us have pets?

As far as the event itself, Kim from OH did a great job of getting things together and trying to please all of us. Kim if you are reading this, "You done good girl, thanks!"

There was time during the reception party to make new friends and reunite with those we chat with on the various forums. Here are just a few pictures of those I took that show the enthusiasm and appreciation shared through stories, laments, encouragement, and of course good food and friendship.

And speaking of new friends, Michelle finally met Andrea U (on the right) and Melting Momma (Beth on the left) at this event. I'll have to see what I can do to catch up. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Michelle and Tiffany had fun shopping. Miranda (Tiffany's daughter) and I spent a couple of hours at the Travis AFB Air Museum. If you can get on base, a definite "gotta see". Crocs stores are everywhere but where can you see Everything from WW I fighters to a "Fat Boy" Atomic Bomb to more current Air Force deterrents and NASA craft? There are good film reports and a large displays covering a lot of areas of interest.

Miranda, I didn't have the chance to show my appreciation. I know hanging out with an old geezer is not the most fun way to spend an afternoon. Thank you for being a gracious hostess. And good luck on getting your drivers license.

OK Tiffany, thanks for taking Michelle to the Crocs store (right!). I know she had fun, even if they really weren't for her (right!).

Tomorrow is a down day. Getting ready for the OH Conference and giving the trailer the once over.

Today is the 13th.

...or at least I think it is. We are in Vacaville for a couple of days. Last night we (Michelle that is) spoke at the PacLap Support Group meeting in San Francisco. We left early "to avoid traffic" she says. I think she was just making sure if we had a problem, there would be plenty of time to remedy any necessary repairs. And yes, I was packing my duct tape.

We were plenty early and not pulling the trailer, so we did a little sight seeing. Haight Ashbury District is a must. This is the infamous intersection and a bit of it's peculiarness.

We did stop in the district for lunch and realized when I went to feed the meter I had no money, no wallet, no credit cards, and OMG no drivers license either. OOPS, sure am glad we didn't get stopped by the police for gawking at the different folk around here.

Then out to the coast via the Great Highway and through the Golden Gate Park. At the end of the highway above the "Cliff House" would offer great views of the ocean, but today it was pretty "Seattle like" and overcast.

Coming back through the park was this incredible little water fall. So serene and quiet.

We arrived at St Mary's and found the cafeteria. Barb Metcalf was expected to be out of town, but there she was in all her bubbly glory. She is always fun to be around and her advocating for the DS Surgery is incredible.

Announcements and introductions over, Barb turned the meeting over to Michelle. As she was speaking, my job is to take pictures to share here in the blog. I went to the back to get my camera and a few folks came back to ask me questions. Now for those of you who know us, know when Michelle starts talking about supplementation or when I start talking about product, you CAN'T distract us (or shut us up). Unfortunately, I didn't shoot a single picture so sorry to those of you who wanted to be exploited here in our blog. (Don't worry Barb, I'll get you at the conference.)

Dr Rabkin, we thank you for allowing this chance to share our experience with your patients. Barb, thanks for making the arrangements. Michelle and I appreciate your dedication to our population.

We did sleep in a bit this morning and regroup for tonight's get together. Tiffany and friends came out to Cattleman's in Dixon for dinner. A nice group came out to share stories and have some fun. Tiffany and Eleanor (pink) with her son Isaac, were there. Isaac gave me a hand handing out our goodie bags so I guess that make me a child labor villain? Here he is with Michelle (being ever so charming). (M: we were making faces at Don - I got caught, Isaac didn't!) Umm, young man, she's taken.....

The rest of the group, joining us was Chris (lighter purple), Tom (beard), Nancy (dark purple), Leslie (yellow) and Tiffany's (green print) hubby Loye (khaki green).

Well folks, that's it for tonight. Michelle is yawning and indicating it's time. So until tomorrow's adventures (Crocs shopping for Michelle, and Air Museum for me) are ready to be written about, I guess I'll go to bed with my favorite Vitalady. Night all!

Where the heck are we, CA

I think we are in Vacaville, or Davis, or Dixon or perhaps in Lost, CA. Is there such a place? Must be, because here we are. And it seems like we have been here before.

Last night we were in Corning and getting there wasn't a whole lot of fun. Lets see, snow in the pass, 34 degrees. Over the pass, then rain. OK, so everything is fine UNTIL we hear scraping of metal.

This is NOT a good sign. I pull over and there is a piece of angle iron under the trailer. Definitely not a good sign. At least the rain stopped.

Ya know, it is a good thing I was a Boy Scout in my younger days. I'm prepared for anything. The angle iron is not structural but holds up the under panel that covers the insulation. Fortunately, it was still attached on one side so I get out the tools needed for a repair, drill, bits and duct tape. As a Boy Scout, "I'm Prepared". I always have duct tape.

Well, I broke two drill bits, bent a 3rd and emitted a few words Michelle wouldn't approve of. Just as I drained the last of the juice from the battery in the drill, repair is made. I stole a sheet metal screw (hopefully from something less important) and got the angle iron back in place. Hey, I didn't even use the duct tape. Saving it for the next time.

Back on the road and feeling a bit smug, 1 for getting the thing fixed and 2 for not getting caught using less than Christian language. Five more minutes on the road and we are back in the snow and 34 deg weather. Hmm, He ever watches over us when we cuss. Thank you God for being so forgiving. Honest, I'll watch it next time.

We bed down in Corning for a quick snooze and up early in the morning. We need to get to Vacaville or Davis or where ever we are, so I can have the emergency break release handle replaced in the truck. It broke a few days ago, no big deal, but is inconvenient.

We are staying at the Midway RV Park where we have been before. Got in around 1:00 so plenty of time to get to the dealer. Michelle loads the address in the "Nav" and sends me on my way. Only 10 or so miles away, what could go wrong? Following the Nav and here I am on a dead end road with Nasty Nav saying "You have reached your destination".

Umm, don't think so, isn't even the right road. A phone call and I get redirected to the freeway and down two more exits, all the time Nasty Nav is yelling "YOU ARE NOT ON THE RIGHT COURSE. I'LL TEACH YOU TO CUSS AT ME. I"LL TEACH YOU TO YELL AT ME."

Nasty is silenced in favor of Country Music 61 on Sirius Radio. (LOL Michelle started editing my work here and she thought I was calling her Nasty. Someone tell her to start from the beginning, please. I can't cause she already killed me)

Swift Dodge is finally found in Davis and was promptly and quickly taken care of. If you have a Dodge, Chrysler or Jeep, I wouldn't hesitate to have them service your rig, based on my only experience. I'll let you know if it changes on down the road.

Getting back to the camp ground was no problem and here we sit in front of our computers hammering our email, blogs and the like.

Up early tomorrow to get things packed for the San Francisco stop. We are looking forward to seeing you all there. I'm bringing my duct tape just in case.

Wilsonville & Grants Pass, OR

Well, it's Mother's Day so Happy Day to all you moms. And for you guys who forgot, you are in deep trouble. But before we get to Sunday, let's discuss Saturday.

We got up early (for a Saturday) and got busy finalizing all that needed to be done. Now, I'm thinking about leaving around one and Michelle is thinking four. Of course we don't discuss this and usually ends up in a less than happy departure, with "Aren't you ready yet?" or "Can't we leave now?"

At 2:30 (a good compromise for unspoken ideas) we are on the road. So a happy departure gives us a good start for this VitaTour 2010.

Lucy already went to the beauty parlor and got her Arizona cut special for the trip. She loves these trips and is definitely ready to leave. Our other pets will be well spoiled by the VitaCrew while we are away. I do worry about our newest addition, Andy. He has become a real Poppa's boy. I'm not to sure how he's gonna do (without Andy that is)

We pulled into Wilsonville in time to set up and get a bit at Pizza Schmizza (OK, for a quick meal). She ordered a slice of Canadian Bacon & pineapple (and I know she won't eat the meat so I'll get it - hehehe) and I had spaghetti and meat balls and was patiently waiting to add so Canadian bacon to my mix. HEY! I got ripped off here. The skinny runt ate my bacon. CAN WE Leave now! So much for the compromise earlier. (She'll pay for this)

While we were there, Michelle got a call from Beth from Tualatin (near by) and wanted to visit. They came out to the RV Park and met us there. We had a nice visit. Our very first visitor and I never got the camera out. What was I thinking. Probably more about the Canadian bacon than blogging. Next time Beth, we'll get ya. Thanks again for coming out.

After a good nights rest, Michelle found that the Mother's Day Fairy visited overnight and left her a gift. Hmmm, someone must think she's a pretty hot momma. A green M&M coffee mug. Now we all know the story behind green M&M's, right?

Today we head for Grants Pass and stay along the Rogue River. We have stayed here a number of times and always enjoyed it. There are ducks for Lucy to chase (that never happens).

It was a good trip until 50 miles out and Michelle's phone stopped working. 2 hours at the Verizon store and we're moving again. A little more than half way, just leaving a rest area and SNAP! The e-brake handle snapped off. Lookin' for a Dodge dealer on Monday. And THEN, a mere 20 miles from this stop and it was time for a potty stop. We come off the freeway, find a place to park in a old gas station turned into a store. Things are tight and trying to turn I stopped just before taking off the side of the trailer by a big rock formation. It woulda been UGLY. Trying to maneuver put me up on the old pump stand, but I did clear the rock. Then POP and the sound of metal scraping. No, I did miss the rock, but I didn't miss the metal left in the pump stand and I blew a tire. Side wall damage, so tomorrow we look for a new spare. And a Dodge dealer.

Fortunately I was carrying a good spare so once I got it changed, off we go to our spot on the river. If you are ever this way, the Bridge View RV Resort is a great spot. Hosts are wonderful. When we were running a bit late, they called to make sure we were gonna make it. There was a storm that went through while we were changing the tire and they wanted us to know the storm passed and was good there now.

We are up in the mountains a bit and they just wanted us to know there wasn't any snow or anything. We did get stranded coming north some time ago when we were hit with snow and couldn't go over the pass. That was a pain. If I recall it was on a January 08 run to California. Go figure, mountains, January, and really, snow! Who woulda thought?

Anyway, here we are, in Grants Pass. Michelle is having dinner with Leslie S who wanted to visit with us. I didn't join them, just a little sore from changing the tire, and besides, I had to bring you all up to speed.

Tomorrow we cross into California and will be staying in Corning. Olive country. Nummmm. So see you then. Good night for now.

April 29th and counting

Yeah, and counting down. Ummmmm. I'm not sure we are anywhere near ready. But, some how we are hitting the road and will be in Oregon on May 9th.

I just posted a list of this years sponsors. We really appreciate the following companies.
Bio-Tech Pharmacal who is sharing their booth with us at the ASMBS Conference.
Allmax Nutrition (Allwhey & Isoflex), Bio-Nutritional Research Group (Power Crunch Bars), Bio-Engineered Supplements & Nutrition (Syntha 6 & Lean Dessert), Gaspari Nutrition (MyoFusion), Integrated Sports Science (Oh Yeah! products), Nature's Science (ISO Pure), Pharmics (Ferretts Iron), Universal Nutrition (Whey Pro & Dr's CarbRite), Wellements (ProBlend 55). But I have to tell you, our excitement at getting to meet new friends and get together with old ones is real. We can tell many stories of past tours like the trip to Florida and being introduced to Sheri's group in 2003, manning the Champion Booth in 2004, our shortened trip in 2007 and being saved by our friends Alice & Mike and driving through the Red Canyon in the Dixie National Forrest in 2008.

We have had incredible trips and it is all because of you all, coming to meet us and the blessing you are to us. We do have the most wonderful customers and friends.
